The power of the Republican base is made up of three general types of conservatives: Family Conservatives, Economic Conservatives, and Defense Conservatives. I am using the numbers from Nevada with 98% of the precincts reporting to show that Romney won with the three types of conservatives - REGARDLESS of the Mormon vote. I suggest people that actually live around Mormons are not afraid to vote for a Mormon.
Nevada Caucus Numbers with 98% of precincts reporting:
| Romney | Paul | McCain | Huckabee | Thompson | Giuliani | Hunter | Tancredo |
---|
Votes | 22313 | 5742 | 5558 | 3500 | 3475 | 1884 | 879 | 0 |
Percent | 51% | 13% | 13% | 8% | 8% | 4% | 2% | 0% |
An NPR host stated around 2:30 PM EST that 50% of the vote for Romney claimed to be Mormon. Fox news at 3 PM EST stated 25% of those voting were Mormons in Nevada backing up the NPR statement. We will
expel the Mormons by deleting 50% of those that voted for Romney and then analyze the data.
We take the 22313 and divide by 2 in order to derive 50%. This is 22313/2 = 11156.5
Because we cannot have a half person, we will lower the number to 11156. The new numbers and percentages come out as shown below.
| Romney | Paul | McCain | Huckabee | Thompson | Giuliani | Hunter | Tancredo |
---|
Votes | 11156 | 5742 | 5558 | 3500 | 3475 | 1884 | 879 | 0 |
Percent | 35% | 18% | 17% | 11% | 11% | 6% | 3% | 0% |
Ladies and Gentlemen, the data clearly show that even when eliminating the Mormon vote, Romney still trounced the other candidates in Nevada. Romney is electable among all three groups of conservatives: Family Conservatives, Economic Conservatives, and Defense Conservatives.
The graph from
MSNBC Video is telling:
28% Protestant, 25% Mormon, 18% Catholic, 15% Other Christian
